Final Cut Pro, Level 1 (Mark Stoffel)
This hands-on workshop is an introduction to the basic interface of FCP, will teach file organization, adjusting and customizing preferences and settings, basic editing functions, and how to finish and output your project.
NOTE: Undergraduates welcome - please announce this workshop in your RT/CP/JRNL production classes!

Final Cut Pro, Level 2 (Mark Stoffel)
Topics of this Level 2 workshop could cover as much as: Capturing video and audio, various editing and trimming techniques (ripple, roll, slip and slide tools), audio editing, video compositing, basic color correction, video compositing, motion-keyframing, and whatever else pops up in the final Q & A part of the workshop.

2D/3D Compositing & Advanced Image Processing using "Shake" - (Youssef Osman)
A basic introduction to the understanding of compositing, examining the difference between layer based and node based compositing (After Effects VS. Shake). Experimenting with basic compositing techniques and motion graphics as an introduction to understand Shake's interface and workflow and tree process.

Getting started with AVID: An overview of the basics of Media Composer. We'll get you set up and give you some tips so you'll be able to safely explore this editing platform on your own.

Compressing Video for DVD and Web use (David Kidd & Roger Suski)
Apple's "Compressor" is a convenient tool to create video and audio assets for DVD titles. This workshop will demonstrate the differences between the most common types of compression and explain why there is a need for compression in the first place! It will focus on settings that will yield good quality results for MPEG 2 and AC3 audio files midlevel users.

Basics of Audio and Video Production (Roger Hart)
The workshop will include an introduction to the techniques, microphones and audio recording devices used in producing audio for the web. The video portion will include an introduction to the techniques, camera, and audio devices used in the production of web video. A shoot to edit workflow will be taught with a goal of recording the audio and video needed to create a video story in Final Cut Pro or another video editing application.

Efficient editing workflow for long-form features: Low-Rez, Subclips, etc (David Kidd)
WSIU's senior producer David Kidd shares tricks of the trade. Learn how to capture SD and HD video in low resolution in order to make editing and scripting more manageable. Full-rez capturing can now become part of the finishing process. Highly recommended for CP and RT students who work or plan to work on long-form programs!

In this exclusive workshop, SIU's Blackboard Administrator JP Dunn will hopefully lift all fear of using Blackboard as your course management tool. Blackboard enables instructors to provide students with course materials, discussion boards, virtual chat, online quizzes, an academic resource center, and more. It will enhance every aspect of learning, academic life and the student experience. Requested by numerous members of the MCMA faculty!

Create & post your own personal website with iWeb (Mark Stoffel)
Make use of your own 40MB share on the SIUC web server and become present on the world wide web! This workshop will introduce intermediate concepts regarding web page development using the popular WYSIWYG ("what you see is what you get") application iWeb. You will create your own web site, containing text, photos, movies, PDFs, and more, and publish it to the SIUC web server.
NOTE: No previous web-authoring experience needed.
